Making The Most Out Of Your Cheap Discount Travel Vacation

StopLearn to connect with travel by accepting that things will be different. THAT’S WHY YOU’RE TRAVELING!!! At least we hope it is. Sorry for shouting, but we feel strongly about this.

We have met people who are traveling just so they can tick one more country off their list and impress the neighbors, but wow, what a waste not to connect with travel and really learn something.

You don’t have to be traveling on your own to connect. You can find ways to learn about local customs and people if you’re on a tour.

Ask questions… don’t be shy. If you’re strolling through a local market in Borneo, and you don’t know what that fruit is…. ask. People love to share their culture with you if you show an interest. You might even end up with a taste… though if it’s durian you might want to pass.

Talk to local workers instead of just taking pictures of them. On the waterfront of Dubai Creek, we wanted to take pictures of the old wooden dhows. My hubby started chatting with the dock workers. Next he was helping them load boxes onto the dhows, and we were talking politics…. The American tourists making friends with the Iranian and Pakistani dock workers! We were having fun, and they now had a slightly better view of Americans.

Instead of rushing in and out of a famous church before the service begins, linger and listen. In Munich one time, we were about to leave a church because the service was ready to start, but a local invited us to stay for something “Frei”. We weren’t sure what it was, but it was free. We stayed and enjoyed the most fantastic Mozart concert you can imagine.

Join in the evening “paseo” in Italy, Spain and all of southern Europe. Locals stroll and stop to chat with each other. Smile and nod, you might strike up a conversation. Ask the locals where they go for dinner. That small local place can be a real prize even if you can’t read the menu.

Instead of saying “It’s all Greek to me,” get friendly and curious. In a little town in Greece where no one spoke English, we ditched the menu and went into the kitchen…. then we just pointed to what we wanted to eat…. it was absolutely wonderful… and so cheap we thought they had made a mistake on the bill.

Visit a supermarket. It’s fun to see what they’re selling and how they sell it. Look around to see what’s really different and what’s pretty much the same.

Accept invitations. We were invited to visit a local school in Nairobi by some teachers we just happened to meet. When we got to the school, each of the classes had prepared a song or a skit for us. It was a real eye opener when the 2nd graders did a poem about AIDS, but what a wonderful experience we would have missed if we had been shy and said no.

After school we went with the teachers to a local African sports bar. Our safari was wonderful, but the school experience really allowed us to connect with travel and the local culture.

So break out of your shell, try something different, talk to strangers…. really connect with travel.

Discover Cheap Discount Travel To The UK Air shows

Posted by admin | Posted in Cheap Discount Travel | Posted on 17-12-2009

StopAir shows in England? Maybe you’re ready for a break from castles and museums… You’ve gotten into the great outdoors to explore Stonehenge and some of the other megaliths, but you want a little more action!

There are air shows all over the United Kingdom. You can find one… or two… every weekend from March to October. There are military air shows at Royal Air Force Bases and displays featuring antique airplanes… or antique airplanes as they like to say… at museums from north to south.

If you want to spare yourself having too look all over the British Isles for times and dates, there are two big venues for air shows in England. You need look no further than the Imperial War Museum Duxford and The Shuttleworth Collection.

The Imperial War Museum Duxford is a great place to see vintage aircraft. The museum is open all year. Four times a year Duxford hosts major air shows in England, with smaller shows almost monthly. You can expect to see rare and historic aircraft on the ground and in the air…. World War II aviation legends like Hurricanes and Spitfires.

There are less well known legends like the Gloster Gladiator… or how about a Hawker Hind? If you’re into Mustangs and other American “warbirds”, there’s a great American Air Museum on the grounds.

Duxford was first in use in World War I. It was a Royal Air Force Fighter Station in World War II. When it was closed, it was turned into the great museum it is today. Duxford is about 50 miles (80 km) from London just off the M11 Motorway. It is just about 10 miles (16 km) south of Cambridge.

If you’re interested in seeing even older aircraft, visit the Shuttleworth Collection, in Old Warden, near Biggleswade. They specialize in “Edwardian Flying Machines.” The emphasis of their museum is on planes that are from the early years of flying, World War I and the 1920s and ’30s between the wars. There are some World War II aircraft and some that visit on flying display days.

The Shuttleworth collection is dedicated to keeping even the oldest of their planes flying, and they schedule flying displays throughout the air show season…. the air shows take place subject to “weather, serviceability and availability” according to their web site.

Conditions have to be just right for some of these fragile old aircraft, and the planes themselves have to be ready to fly… if that sounds like they almost take on a life of their own, they do. The pilots learn to listen to the old planes, and if something doesn’t sound quite right, they don’t fly…. but you can still see them on the ground. These old planes take off and land on grass, and that’s fun to see all by itself.

The Shuttleworth Collection is just a couple of miles off the A1 Motorway about 30 miles (48 km) north of London…. you can drive it in about an hour.

If you want to visit both, you’ll probably have to settle for a flying day at one and a visit to the museum at the other… but that’s not bad. They are about an hour or two apart over country roads.

On rare occasions they have flying displays the same weekend… you could see one on Saturday and one on Sunday… How’s that for seeing the best air shows in England? Amazing Cheap Discount Travel Deals To Frankfurt Germany

StopAs cheap discount travel is now on a surge to any International airport city, then Frankfurt is a must.

Germany’s capital has been moved from Bonn back to Berlin, but it is still the industrial city of Frankfurt that you are most apt to fly into. More international flights land there than at any of the other airports in the country.

Munich and Berlin draw more tourists, so Frankfurt may not be your ultimate destination in Germany, but it’s worth a visit. You have two choices on arrival. Go into the city for a day or two to get over jet lag and see the sights, or immediately get out of town.

To get out of town, you can rent a car and easily get to the Rhine and Mosel areas of Germany. The Romantic Road isn’t far away. You can fly on to another destination, or you can catch a train from the airport into town and get almost anywhere from the huge 19th century railway station in town.

Like many cities in Germany, Frankfurt was bombed during WW II, and nearly all of its old half-timbered buildings were destroyed. The city was rebuilt with a mixture of modern and traditional architecture. Some of the old buildings were faithfully restored.

You can take a leisurely day to explore the old town — the Altstadt. It’s a great way to get over jet lag and still get something out of your first day on a trip. Before WW II it was a great historic town, and with the rebuilding, there are still historic things to see. See the Gothe Haus, the birthplace of the 18th century writer Gothe.

The Romerberg area is the historic center of the Alstadt. There are three old houses connected together that are called the Romer. These houses were originally built in the 13th century. About a century after they were built, they were bought by the city, interconnected, and used as the city hall — the Rathaus.

On the second floor is the Imperial Hall — the Kaisersaal which you can visit on a tour. The wonderfully elaborate front of the Romer overlooks the Romerberg Square — Romerplatz. There are many other reconstructed half-timbered houses in the area.

You can’t miss the Church St. Bartholomaus which is also in the Altstadt. This church is sometimes referred to as the Dom (the cathedral), but it isn’t truly a cathedral. The main construction was from the 13th to the 15th centuries.

It was destroyed during WW II but resorted to it’s former glory. There is one altar remaining from the church’s original interior called the Altar of Mary Sleeping - the Maria Schlafaltar. It was carved in the 15th century.

One interesting fact is that in the 14th century, the Dom was selected to be the electoral site for the kings of the Holy Roman Empire. Several coronations took place here. In the Dom Museum you can see some of the robes of Imperial Electors. Some date from the 14th century and give you an idea of how ornate they were.

There are several museums on the south bank of the Main River. The most important art museum is the Stadel Museum. It contains paintings from most eras of European painting from early Flemish and Dutch masters, to German painters to Impressionists. Other museums are nearby, and this south bank of the river is sometimes referred to as the Museum Embankment.

Most of what you probably want to see can be reached on foot. Nearly all the tourist type sights are within the old town walls. You can get around Frankfurt by subway, trams and buses. Consider a Frankfurt Card - Frankfurter Tageskarte - which will get you on public transportation and into museums.

So when you fly into Frankfurt Airport, consider spending a day in the city. It might just surprise you with what it has to offer.

But anyway, there are so many more amazing cities to visit by taking advantage of current cheap discount travel deals available. Head straight over to the GlobeCheap web site, where you will discover the very latest in cheap discount travel techniques found in this Free Cheap Discount Travel Report
